Homemade Natural Pesticides that Get Rid of Insects Effectively

Raise your hands if you hate bugs. While they’re a major part of Earth’s ecosystem, bugs are too irritating for us to let them stay in our homes and gardens. Plus, some of them are pests that can ruin everything you have in your garden, and no one likes that.

While there are plenty of commercial pesticides you can use against them, it’s safe to say that not all of them work. Some are outright harmful for you and the environment. What’s the solution? In this article, we’ll show you a few homemade natural pesticides that can help you get rid of the most annoying bugs.

Green Homemade Pesticides

Mosquito Repellent

Ingredients

  • Mild hair shampoo
  • 9% vinegar
  • Vegetable oil

Preparation

Mix the ingredients in equal amount in a shampoo bottle. They should form a white emulsion. Shake well before spraying the mix on your body. Make sure to cover the hands, legs, and feet, and mosquitos will never be a problem again.

Tick and Flea Repellent

Ingredients

  • 100 ml. ACV
  • 200 ml. water
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon of salt

Preparation

Mix the ACV and water first, then add the soda and salt. Shake well in a plastic bottle and spray the repellent on your pet. Make sure it covers the legs, neck, and back nicely. Ensure that the solution doesn’t enter your pet’s eyes.

This homemade repellent works great against ticks and fleas. While you can buy one at the vet, those are toxic and not environmentally-friendly. This solution is, though, so you can try it without worrying about your pet’s skin.

Ant Repellent

We all hate ants. They usually come in groups of hundreds and can be found in every nook and cranny. Pesticides don’t really help and are toxic for you and your pets. The following mix can help remove ants from your home and is very easy to prepare.

Ingredients

  • Boric acid (2% solution)
  • Jam or sugary treat

Preparation

Mix a bit of the boric acid with some jam or sugar. Put the treat in the areas overwhelmed by ants. They will pick it apart and take it to their tunnels which will eliminate the whole colony.
