Don’t Believe A Narcissist’s Apology

What does a narcissist mean when he or she says: “I am sorry”?

Narcissists are people that are not sincere, so they have no problem telling you lies. When they say that they feel sorry, what they essentially mean is that they are sorry that you have caught them, so now they must pretend to regret the pain they have caused. They don’t regret from their heart, so their words are meaningless and you should not push them to speak the things you desperately want to hear. It is better for you to know the truth and move on with your life instead of enjoying the lies.

Their apology is part of the “cycle of abuse”

PsychCental shares an article about the apologies a narcissist tells. They share the advice to not be easily fooled by a narcissist’s words because when they say they are sorry that is not true, it is only a part of his/her “cycle of abuse”. What you have to realize is that there is no improvement in the relationship after the apology, because the narcissist will not change his personality or the way he or she treats you.

Narcissists cannot apology honestly because they don’t realize they have done something wrong and that they have hurt someone. They only feel bothered by you, and if saying sorry to you will solve the problem quickly, then they will say it,  but will not feel it, and will not try to change anything.

This is manipulation, and it is up to you whether you will be satisfied with words only, or you will ask for deeper change. But be aware that it is better that you shouldn’t let these kinds of people do what they want with you. Sometimes you just have to cut the ties and move on with your life. Sometimes this is the only option you have if you want to stay mentally healthy and happy.

Things are not always what they seem. Make a decision that you deserve to know the truth no matter how painful it is for you to handle. Therefore, when someone says that he or she feels sorry, don’t believe it immediately. Wait and watch for their actions. If their actions are not proving their words, you know that it is time to look for someone better. You are the most important person in your life, so take care of your heart.
