The Way You Treat Other People Reveals Your Character

From an early age, the media taught us that true beauty comes from outside. We have been taught that power and money are the most important things in life. Also, people, who have money and power should be respected. They are better than us.

However, this is not true. We are all equal and the way we treat other people is what truly matters.

We are all equal – you are not better than me and I am not better than you

If a person has more money, goes to a private school, and dresses better, it does not mean that they are better than us. These things do not make them better than us. Money cannot buy a personality.

For instance, on the one hand, imagine somebody who has power, fame, and money, but treats people badly. They are very important and powerful, and deserve respect and admiration.

On the other hand, imagine somebody who has no money, no power, no fame. Would you be friends with them? And would you like to meet them? Would you think that he is a better person than you?

When we put power, money, and fame aside, what remains is the size of our heart.

How to be a better person

If you want to be a better person, the first thing you need to do is to change the way you treat other people. Here are some tips that will help you improve and become a better person.

Stick to the Golden rule

According to the Golden rule, we should treat others the way we want to be treated. This Golden rule is the basis of many philosophies and religions across the world. The way we treat other people is our choice, and if we choose to be disrespectful, it may come back to us.

Think before you say something

The world would be a better place for living if everyone thought before they said something. Before saying something, ask yourself:

  • What do I want to say? Will I hurt somebody?
  • How would I feel I someone said this to me? To my family? To my children?
  • Would I say this to my loved ones?

Go through your thoughts before you say something. Sometimes, hard things need to be said, but they can be said more politely and diplomatically.

Challenge yourself to change the way you treat other people

Give yourself a kindness challenge and change the way you treat other people. Start a 30-day challenge and do a nice thing for someone every day. You do not have to spend your money on valuable things. Sometimes, giving a compliment can brighten someone’s day.

And remember: ‘No matter how rich, famous, or talented you are, the way you treat other people is what matters.’
