The Best Natural Way to Keep Spiders Out of Your Home

There’s nothing like the scream of a homeowner who spots their first spider in the house. While spiders can be beneficial for controlling pests, most people would rather not have them around at all. There are plenty of natural deterrents for spiders you may utilize to keep them away from your home, such as plants and aromatic oils. You should be frightened of the bottle of chemical pest control spray more – than just the spider itself.

Thankfully, there are some simple ways to keep spiders out of your house using essential oils. By diffusing certain oils in your home or applying them to entry points, you can create an environment that is unfavorable for spiders and help keep them away.

Needed:

peppermint essential oil, citrus, tea tree, warm water, and eco-friendly dish detergent.

Why essential oil

The oil itself is something that a lot of insects despise. As much as we love the essential oils, spiders on contrary find them unpleasant. Spiders use their two tiny front legs in a range of ways, one of which is to feed. When they will touch the essential oil on those legs I do not believe that they will find food pleasant after that. This is something more of an assumption than a scientific fact but there is a lot of logic, right? Nonetheless, spiders simply do not love essential oils.

Why dish soap

Oil molecules in the water are broken down by the soap, producing a more consistent solution.

How to make a spider-stay-away spray with only natural ingredients

  • 5 to 7 drops of pure essential oil from peppermint, citrus, tea tree, or lavender
  • liquid dish detergent
  • warm water
  • clean spraying bottle
  • a dash of white vinegar (it’s optional)

Drip the drops of oil into the spraying bottle and fill the rest with warm water. Add the liquid detergent, put the top on, and shake it well for a few seconds.

Before start spraying, with a vacuum cleaner clean all the spider webs and any egg sacs that you can find. After finishing with this, spray around window frames, along door cracks, and in dark gloomy areas where spiders may be hiding. If you already add some white vinegar, be aware that it could affect some fabrics and some surfaces maybe.

You can rest assured: You will not swallow spiders when you sleep

You may have heard the urban legend that if you sleep with your mouth open, you will swallow a spider. Rest assured, this is not true. Spiders are not interested in crawling into your mouth; they would much rather stay outside where there are plenty of insects to eat.

In fact, spiders are more afraid of you than you are of them. So the next time you hear someone say that if you sleep with your mouth open, you will swallow a spider, you can set their mind at ease by explaining that it is nothing more than an old wives’ tale.

If they do end up in an ear or mouth, the dude was just confused.
