Most Common Signs and Symptoms of Kidney Problems

While cancer is the deadliest disease of our time, there are plenty of other health problems out there that are often ignored, but just as dangerous. Take kidney problems for example. Kidney diseases and conditions take the lives of more people annually than breast and prostate cancer combined. According to experts, more than 650,000 people in the USA suffer from kidney failure which is an extremely difficult condition to treat.

It is usually related to high blood pressure and diabetes. This condition affects the way our kidneys work, resulting in an accumulation of toxins inside. Since the kidneys are the human body’s filters that detox our blood, accumulation of toxins is something that can cause serious damage to our bodies. Non-functioning kidneys can be very dangerous to our health and may have fatal consequences.

Unfortunately, we rarely pay attention to the health of our kidneys. We ‘bombard’ them with unhealthy foods and alcohol, and the polluted environment doesn’t help as well. The kidneys are very important for our overall health, preventing the accumulation of toxins, maintaining the electrolyte balance in the body, and producing important hormones.

To put it simply, they’re an organ we can’t live without. This is why it’s important to pay close attention to the early signs of kidney disease.

Common Signs of Kidney Problems

Brain Fog

When too much toxins accumulate in our blood due to non-functioning kidneys, we may experience brain fog. It’s one of the less common symptoms of kidney disease, but a very important one. This is actually an umbrella term that describes problems with your focus and attention span as well as learning difficulties.

Unexplained Fatigue

Feeling tired when working out is common, but if a sudden onset of unexplained fatigue often strikes you, you should be concerned. It may be caused by low levels of red blood cells which exhaust our muscles and result in fatigue.

Shortness of Breath

Shortness of breath is often caused by anemia. Anemia means that our cells aren’t getting the oxygen they need. It’s a common symptom of kidney problems that you shouldn’t ignore.

Digestive Problems

Kidney infections can often cause digestive problems many people ignore. If your stomach is often upset and accompanied by vomiting and nausea, it may be a sign of kidney diseases.

Urine Changes

Any changes in your urine’s color, smell, or texture is a sign of kidney trouble. Of course, these changes may come and go in a day or two. However, if the change is consistent, it would be better to visit your doctor.

Muscle Cramps

We already mentioned that the kidneys balance the level of electrolytes and fluids in our bodies. When they don’t work properly, it leads to electrolyte imbalance which can cause muscle cramps and twitching.

Poor Appetite

Poor appetite accompanied by a metallic taste in the mouth is a result of toxin accumulation in the blood. This has probably occurred due to some kind of problem with your kidneys.

As you can see, there are plenty of telling signs of kidney problems. If you’re suspecting that you’re suffering from it, don’t ignore the problem before it’s too late. Visit your doctor and they will prescribe therapy that can get your kidneys working in optimal function once again.
