Squid Game Season 2 Has Officially Been Released and Fans Are Already Freaking Out

Netflix’s global phenomenon Squid Game has made its highly anticipated return to screens after a three-year wait, and viewers are already sharing their enthusiastic reactions across social media platforms.

The South Korean sensation, which first captivated audiences in 2021, has proven to be one of Netflix’s biggest success stories, amassing an incredible 330 million viewers and more than 2.8 billion viewing hours. Created by director Hwang Dong-hyuk, the series took the world by storm with its unique blend of drama, suspense, and social commentary.

As the new episodes dropped today (December 26), fans couldn’t contain their excitement, flooding social media with their reactions. “WHY AM I SO SCARED TO WATCH SQUID GAME 2,” one viewer exclaimed on Twitter, while another shared, “Squid game s2 got me holding my breathhhhhh omg.” The enthusiasm has led to many viewers planning marathon watching sessions, with comments like “Yaaay I can finally binge Squid Game 2” appearing across platforms.

Early reviews from viewers who’ve already started watching are overwhelmingly positive, with many suggesting that the second season might even surpass the first. “Squid Game season 2 is 10x better than the first,” one viewer posted, while another praised, “First episode of Squid Game season 2 is amazing already WOW.”

Interestingly, this beloved second season almost didn’t happen. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk initially had no plans for a follow-up, but two factors changed his mind. In a candid interview with the BBC, the 53-year-old screenwriter revealed that financial compensation played a role in his decision. Despite the first season’s massive success, Dong-hyuk admitted he “didn’t make much” from it, and the second season would help “compensate for the success of the first one.”

However, money wasn’t the only motivating factor. Dong-hyuk also acknowledged that he “didn’t fully finish the story” in the first season, suggesting there was more tale to tell. The good news for fans doesn’t stop there – a third season has already been confirmed and is expected to hit screens sometime next year.
